Free Piles

Tamara yesterday rambled about our trip to Value Village, however, she left out the free pile adventures. Mind you VV would not take many of the items I wanted to give them, hence they were just leftover crap that I had no idea what to do with.

At one time I lived on Capital Hill were the norm was to scribble on a piece of paper "Free" and tape it to a pile of stuff on the sidewalk. The system worked great. My junk is totally someone else's treasure. Now I live in the suburbs and that didn't seem like the thing to do. But grandma came through for us. She let me know that the people up the street from her place had an ongoing free pile. She had even placed free items there herself from time to time. Score on that.

We had two car trips full of stuff. We got the first unloaded quickly and headed home for more. On our way back to the pile with our second load we noticed a second free pile area. Some business had closed up shop and put a bunch of stuff on a sidewalk. Being slugs that we are we pulled right in and decided to enlarge their offerings a bit more. But of course being a "shiny object shopper" Tamara found some treasure in the free pile that my daughter will be excited about. Hence as she is pulling from the pile that owner comes out and offers up "more goods". No, I don't think so. Tamara quickly got back into the vehicle hoping we could get out of there before they realized we had added to their pile of crap.

We continued on to the first free pile to empty the rest of the vehicle's load.
Sure enough during the two hour break from our first load drop off someone had come and taken our offerings.

So keep your eyes peeled as you drive through your town, you never know what great thing is just waiting for you on the side of the road.

Now back to the regularly scheduled program. Enjoy your updates!
