Farewell for now, but not forever!

Happy 2016. May your year be filled with joy, peace and health. Let life show you your path. Remember your past but look forward to your future. 2016 holds the unknown bringing opportunities.

Thanks for sharing this with us. And remember that Ze may pop by from time to time. We'll keep the Yahoo group up and running (we won't spam you) for those occasions.

Elisa (ekhhome @ yahoo.com)

I looked into Tumblr since a lot of folks seem to be posting femslash there these days. Signing up is easy. An account even gives you the ability to start your own blog. Posting to your blog is not required, however.

If all you want to do is read start searching for topics of interest to you. "Femslash" gives you some places to start. Just click on one and and Follow that blog. Don't be afraid to explore, follow, unfollow, comment, etc. Tumblr will even offer suggestions based on blogs you've followed.

Tumblr does give you another advantage...the ability to read blog posts while you're away from your computer. The Tumblr app seems pretty easy to use. I browsed a bit with it today and followed a bunch of comic book related blogs. I'll keep it on my phone for a while and see how I like it.

Keep an eye on fictionforlesbians.wordpress.com. It does get updated. Best of all...it's got an RSS feed.

Ze's post from a few days ago is also great place for the sites that are updating semi-regularly.

This site will eventually be migrated to blogger. Stay on the Yahoo list and one of us will let everyone know when it's done.

It's been a blast and I would happily have continued to update UE if there were sites to check. A big thank you to everyone who has read our posts over the years.

Happy 2016!

Then Fill to Me the Parting Glass

Happy New Year to you all - I hope it's a good one. May the best of your yesterdays be the worst of your tomorrows.

First - I'm a plonker!! I got my own email wrong!! I missed a number off!!

Today's link is the correct addy. Sorry folks.

Next. This is my last scheduled update. It's been fun finding stories for you all. It's been an honour being of service. It's been a privilege sharing snippets of my life, my thoughts, my joys, my sorrows, and my rants with you all. I'm going to miss this and I'm going to miss you.

Goodnight. Stay safe. And may your God/s go with you always.

The End is Nigh

Last-but-one update from me.

T - Nooooooooooo don't do Tumblr - that place is chaos incarnate!! Stick with blogger... lol

If E can get the blog disconnected from the website before the website goes offline then, you'll need to change any bookmarks you have for it, but it will still be here for you to check back over old stuff. And I might just drop in from time to time to bore you with cute ferret stuff and such.

I think the yahoo group will still be there too - so I can let members know when I have passed by.

Oh yeah - and of course our uber etc email addys won't work any more either. So for my remaining two updates the link will have a different addy for those of you who'd like to keep in touch. (Joan?? Mel??)

Right - checking AO3 - this is the link you'll need AO3 f/f

It lists all the works that have been tagged as f/f - that's female/female not fan fic *g* - in date order - most recent first. You just need to check each page to see if there are stories the fandoms you like, or new chapters. There are usually between 15 and 20 pages of updates per day (more at busy times like Christmas) but if you're not checking all fandoms you can skip most of them. If you join the site you can get alerts for favourite authors/updates to stories etc. Obviously I never did that because I was checking all f/f stories for the site, not just in my fandoms. There's a button for RSS feed too.

Check the warning tags, check the pairing tags, read the summaries - because not everybody tags properly and just because it's been tagged f/f doesn't mean it is f/f.

You can narrow your searches - click on the pairing you want to bring up just stories with that pairing. Click on the writer's name to bring up only their stories. Click on a fandom to bring up all stories in that fandom. Do a search and choose your tags to avoid certain things or select certain things.

I'll see you all tomorrow for my last hurrah. Until them happy reading.

Boxing Day

Here is hoping the day and week have gone well for you all. We had a great holiday. Today our visiting cat found a forever home with a really good guy.

I have Monday and Tuesday off so a few extra days of fun for all of us. We will go see the gingerbread houses downtown on Tuesday. This is a yearly tradition at this point and this year they feature Star Wars. Something to look forward to.

Here is hoping you all enjoy the week as well. Reminder our last official update is December 31.

Peace, Health and Happiness.

Happy Holidays!

Today seems as good a time as any to talk about RSS Feeds. RSS stands for Rich Site Summary. Here's a great site that explains what RSS is: www.whatisrss.com. Sadly many of the sites we check don't have an RSS feed enabled.

The best way to see if your favorite site does have an RSS feed is to use an online RSS reader. Here's a great start for sites to use: sixrevisions.com/tools/free-rss-readers/.

A few years ago, Google had an RSS news reader. Google decided not to support it any more, however, and I started using the Feedly reader. I don't know anything about the other readers listed but they should all do basically the same thing...allow you to input a favorite site and, if they've got an RSS feed, easily see new content from multiple sites at one location.

A major benefit to RSS feeds is you can also read updates from your favorite sites using news reader apps on your phone or tablet. I use the GReader Pro app and it allows me to easily check many sites that I like to follow and read the new content as soon as it appears. I would bet any web based RSS reader you find will have an equivalent app.

I hope this isn't too confusing. Feel free to hit us up with questions. I'll try to answer as best I can.

Christmas Eve

When I was a youngster this was my favorite night. I would go to my grandparents house with my family and my aunt and cousins. Best time every year. I have no idea why but some part of my brain never let go of how special it was.

Those days are gone and now Tamara and I try and create special times for our kids. As each year we swap Christmas Eve or Christmas day with the other houses and this year is Christmas Day for us. So tonight is a fairly slow one as we put the final touches on presents and stockings.

They will all be over tomorrow for a full house of chaos. Fun with everyone. I look forward to it all.

Here is hoping whatever you celebrate that it is filled with Joy and Wonder.

Happy Holidays and Peace to All.

Links.

Star Wars was brilliant. Go. See it.

Yeah - in typical Abrams fashion it was big on battle scenes. And, yeah there were bits of it where you could think "haven't we been here before". But there were bits that were brand new. And a bit of character depth that would have made the three prequels decent movies if they had possessed something similar.

It was a bloody good movie and worth seeing more than once.

..............................................

Next - as you all know after next week this site will be closing. For those of you that might like to bookmark some of the sites we cover - here's a short list of the ones that still post new things.

Multi-fandom websites which still update
Royal Academy of Bards

Passion and Perfection

Shatterstorm Productions

LiveJournal Communities which are stll active.
callie_arizona Grey's Anatomy

dvlwears-prada The Devil Wears Prada

Girlslash Multi-fandom

HP Girlslash Harry Potter

Femmeslash Multi-fandom

OUaT Femslash Once Upon a Time

Regina-Emma Once Upon a Time

Saffic Multi-fandom

Dreamwidth Community which still updates.
GirlGay Multi-fandom

And it looks like BuffyFaith is updating again after a couple of dead years.

I'll post the AO3 info, and how to check it, next week.

.................................................................

And now... MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all.

See you next week. Goodnight and may your God/s go with you.

Solsice - and Nearly Christmas!!!!!

It was the Solstice in the wee small hours this morning. We wish our Wiccan and Pagan readers a Good Yule or Good Litha.

Tomorrow is Mawlid an Nabi - the birth of the Prophet Muhammad - celebrated by some branches of Islam. We wish those of our Muslim readers who mark this day a good festival.

And... it's nearly Christmas!! *bounces*

If you're in the UK (and the weather is co-operative) on Christmas Eve you should be able to see the International Space Station fly past (it moves bloody quickly so be ready). It should pass from west to east sometime around 5.20pm. If you have kiddies who still believe in Father Christmas tell them it's him flying on his travels and the shine is Rudolph's nose. It will be Magic for them.

Hell - just knowing I can see the Space Station flying over is magic to me. And I'm a long way past the kid stage.

And on the subject of Father Christmas don't forget about the NORAD Santa Tracker.

Hype!

Hi!

Happy Holidays! But even more, I hope you will enjoy a happy and rewarding new year.

Bedazzled Ink Publishing has had a very interesting 2015. Even though this is the season for long, glowing end of year letters to friends and family, I’ll spare you one and just direct you to our blog link. Winking smile binkbooks.bedazzledink.com/blog/

One of the things we’re very excited about is launching our new imprint. This is an excerpt from our Editor, CA Casey’s blog.

“Since Bedazzled Ink’s namesake, a horse named Infinitely Bedazzled, gave birth to Dazz’s Lil’ Gossip (GusGus) this year, I decided it only fitting to name a press devoted to small literary forms after Dazz’s offspring. GusGus Press will be the home of Bedazzled Ink’s books of poetry, anthologies, and short works of fiction and nonfiction prose. We’re excited to see where this little press takes us as we continue to grow and change as a publisher.” binkbooks.bedazzledink.com/blog/introducing-gusgus-press/

And to add to that news, are two GusGus books by Kat Simpson. [The Devil Series] If you’ve ever been to a Xena convention, you’ll feel right at home with this one.

K. Simpson returns with another funny irreverent story that pokes fun at the obsessive world of online games. Morbida’s Game turns the world’s most popular online game on its ear when one of the online characters figures out how to escape the confines of of cyberspace and wreaks her own special kind of havoc on programmers and avid fans of the game. binkbooks.bedazzledink.com/books/books-m/morbidas-game/

She also penned a short story collection with a quick nod to the Twilight Zone. K. Simpson is back with dry humor and a penchant for the macabre in a collection of ghastly and quirky tales in Late Show & Then Some.

Thanks for all your support this year. We hope you will enjoy our new crop of books for 2016.

Wow, lots for everyone to enjoy! And Claudia thanks for coming by and Happy Holidays to you as well!

Peace, Health and Happiness.

Saturday Slugdom

We didn't do much today. Made a short trip to pick up my comics. Visited my favorite art supply store and found a few more stocking stuffers. Max got a nice walk to Twin Ponds Park. I made some banana bread.

Other than those few things the rest of our Saturday has been spent being slugs. More of the same tomorrow I hope.

Waiting for the Force

We have tickets for next Tuesday.

For the new Star Wars film.

I am so looking forward to this.

Lord, I hope it isn't a disappointment. You never can tell with Abrams as director. I didn't like what he did with Star Trek. Especially the second one. It was a fine action sci-fi film but it wasn't Roddenberry's vision.

The critics who've seen previews of The Force Awakens have loved it. But I don't always agree with the critics.

Saw Mockingjay Part 2 last week and thought it was great. It didn't quite follow the book, mind you, but then I guess it couldn't really. Too much to fit in and a need to keep the action going and all that.

Saw the latest Bond film Spectre a couple of weeks ago. Not bad. I like Craig as Bond. He seems to have moved closer to the Bond of the early books.

Well, that's me done for another week. See you next week. Goodnight and may your God/s go with you

I'm Dreaming of a Wet Christmas

Because I'm certainly not expecting a white one.

We've had so much rain in the last couple of months it's ridiculous. It's nowhere near as bad down here in the south-west as is was last year. Or as bad as the north-west (of England) had it just recently. But the ground is waterlogged and the rain that continues to fall just sits on the top.

Totally ridiculous temperatures too. The overnight temps are around 14 to 15 Celcius.

Overnight. In December. Ridiculous.

......................

LiveJournal pretty much died as far as fanfic communities go - though one or two still update - so it's mildly surprising to find a new community dedicated to writing. It's for original work not fanfic but if you fancy a look it's here - Words in the Brain
