Vacation Laziness

Today I slept in like a slug while E took the little one to school. But, on the plus side, I made biscuits for breakfast so I guess I made up for not being a good pal and accompanying them.

After breakfast we tackled E's storage room and pulled out stuff she wanted gone. Oh, I also helped her put together a Rubbermaid storage bench which, regardless of what those instructions said, was not going to be put together in fifteen minutes by one person. Granted, if that one person had four arms then it would be doable.

The unwanted stuff was dropped off at a Value Village. They took much more than expected but we were left with a wooden wine rack (too much furniture currently at this VV location), plastic serving trays, and a keen race car track that was nicely packed in a plastic tote. I was a little stunned that they didn't take everything because this was the Value Village in which I found a bag of old pens and pencils (the kind that clutter junk drawers everywhere) for a dollar.

After that trip we picked up the kiddo from school, bought some smoothies (theirs-banana/orange, mine-mango/peach) and headed to swim lessons. I broke in E's video camera and taped the lesson. I think I need to nag her more about video camera moments.

Tonight...more vacation laziness.

Splendid Sunday

Got up late, most likely due to the fact that Tamara, my daughter and I were up late watching Lord of the Rings, we are currently on The Return of the King. What a wonderful adventure.

This morning after we leisurely got up, dressed and out of the house, Emory and I had our hairs cut. I even accomplished a little laundry, hence not much. A complete bum and enjoying it fully.

The rest of our day consists of a bit more of the same. A stop at the grocery store, a stroll to the park to feed some ducks and than back to watching more adventures on DVD.

Now off to your updates and enjoy them!

Achingly Lazy

I think E had a nice birthday. We didn't do anything super exciting for her. Just ate lunch at one of her favorite pasta joints downtown, visited a neat toy store and opened presents at home later.

Unfortunately I was plagued by sinus issues yesterday. Made for a night of crappy sleep too so today I'm very sleepy. I do think those smoothies from Insomniax gave me a good burst of vitamin C because today my sinuses are much better. Yesterday's peach/orange smoothie hit the spot.

TGIF!

Vacation officially starts tonight. One week of uninterrupted vacation. I am looking forward to that! Sadly with Okie visiting it has made the week fly by. Work has been absolutely crazy busy but now we have a chance to kick back and truly enjoy vacation.

A few things to get done, most things we look forward to and others are acceptable. The weather has been dandy. My Seattle spring is in full gear. Cool with rain and plenty of sun breaks (I am sure Tamara would say not enough of these, plenty for me).

Okie being who she is continued this week to follow me to work and has even taken some naps on the floor of my office (yes, I got a picture or two). So I think she should be just as pleased with my vacation starting as I am.

Thanks to those of you who offered best wishes today for me, I appreciated them. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming, enjoy 'em and have a good weekend!

Another Day at Insomniax

Today's drink: pear smoothie. Quite good too.

Tomorrow is E's birthday. If you get the urge, wish her a good one please.

I Love Free WiFi

Unlike past visits to Seattle I'm getting treated to the full Seattle spring experience--temps in the 50s and intermittent bursts of rain. I'm glad I brought a good supply of warm shirts and hoodies because my body is acclimated to a warmer spring.

Today E had to go into work so I accompanied her, books and laptop in hand. I'm almost done with Sugar by Karin Kallmaker. I figure I'll read my share of fluff lesbian romances while I'm with E at work. Sugar is a fun read. If you like Karin Kallmaker romances you'll like this one too.

Today's update is being done at Insomniax Coffee & Juice. Seattle is flush with free Wifi but the two nearest places to sit quietly and check links were Insomniax and Starbuck's. I'm not a coffee drinker--love the way it smells but not the way it tastes--so I've done my duty and purchased a hot chocolate for the priviledge of taking up a table for an hour or so.

Tomorrow I may try an Insomniax smoothie.

Slugs

The days are slipping by perfectly. Other than my crappy cold which has hung on, the time with Tamara has gone splendidly. Sleeping in late and having no particular place to be has been grand. Tomorrow real life will poke through for a few days. I have to go to work and Tamara will follow. Just the rest of this week then another slug filled week will lie ahead of us.

We've actually done some things but only those that have included fun. The rest of this week will go well enough other than the eight hours I'll be at work each day. But that will only make the other hours that much more enjoyable.

Okay now back to your regularly scheduled program, light night at that, so enjoy!

Mentally Healthy

Vacation is off to a good start. Yesterday I left Oklahoma around 7 am and arrived in Seattle around 10:15 am. Mind you, this is all due to time zones. My travel time in actuality was around six hours. That's why I love leaving at that godawful early time to head to Seattle. I end up having most of my day ahead of me. Granted I'm usually damn tired by bed time.

Yesterday we didn't do much. Sat around and chatted. I got to play with my new (E's old) laptop. I introduced E to the joys of Gidget (she gave me the DVD set for my birthday). We, of course, stayed up far too late.

Today we ran a few errands and are basically enjoying being slugs. We might go see a chick flick tonight at a local cheap movie theater. I'm having a great time not remembering everything that needs to be done around the house and for the kids and Mike. I tell everyone at home that these trips to Seattle are mental health getaways for me and boy are they ever.

Okay, y'all enjoy this nice sized update and I'll see if I can entice E to watch the pilot episode of Wonder Woman with me. Amazons in panty hose! Who can resist?

Vacation!

Tamara arrived safely. Two weeks of vacation...okay, a few days in the middle I have to work...but overall being a slug for most of that will be easy. Since she visits every year around now she has already done all the tourist crap and now we just sit back shoot the breeze and live a simple life for a few days. All splendid! We do have a few plans, Archie Mcphee's, back issue comic book shopping, helping me with some small home improvements and lots and lots of dvd watching.

So here is your nightly update with lots to read, enjoy!

Congratulate me.

I haven't killed anyone during my mad scramble to get things ready for me to leave for two weeks. I've been remarkably calm and good actually. I may not get the fish tank cleaned before I leave but I figure the fish will survive.

I'm off to make sure the picture frames I'm bringing E are safely sandwiched between layers of clothes.

Buffy Night!

Okay all you Buffy fans, thank Janice who pointed us to a new site. We've added the BuffynFaith.Net site to our checklist which gives a little bit more to read for all you Buffy fans. Tonight we are posting some of the back files so the stories can be coherent and we'll be caught up for at least this month.

So now to your updates...enjoy! And do remember if you have sites you like, let us know and we'll look into adding them.

Is it time for vacation yet?

The last two weeks have been busy with me getting ready to visit E for two weeks. By the time I get to Seattle I'm going to be so ready for a vacation and all because I've busted my ass to get the house set up for my absence. It probably wouldn't be quite so bad if I were just leaving Mike here by himself. But I'm leaving Mike and the kids and my poor mother who gets to take care of the place while I'm gone. She'll be coming over to watch Cal in the mornings before he goes off to Pre-K and then she'll pick the kids up when they get out of school. And because she's my mother and she's super-nice and helpful she'll make dinner for everyone before she goes home. Yep, she's going to need a vacation after I get back.

Two more days and still a long list of things to get done...wish me luck.

Seattle in the Spring Time

Another flawless spring day here in the city. The rain was off and on all day. The dark clouds rolled in and out with breaks of sun for minutes at a time. One can see the sun and blue sky just past the dark clouds. Enough for me at least.

I do need it to dry out long enough for me to mow the yard which is loving the rain and sun fight currently. Soon enough I am sure.

Now back to your regularly scheduled program. Enjoy.

Recipe Night

The final installment in Cherokee Echols' delicious meal.
Sangri Wine

Ingredients:
1 bottle sweet red wine (I like an Oklahoma wine called Scissortail Red by Natura Vineyards. It is a sweet red wine with a fruity taste and a smoky finish)
1/4 c Triple Sec
1/4 c Peach Brandy
3Tbls Rose’s Lime juice
2Tbls Lemon juice
1/2 large Lemon sliced
1/2 large Lime sliced
1/2 large Orange sliced
1/2 to 3/4 c Sugar (depends on how sweet the wine is and your taste)
1 can Ginger Ale

Combine all ingredients EXCEPT Ginger Ale in a glass pitcher and refrigerate at least 24 hours. Before serving mix in the Ginger Ale and serve over cracked ice with a twist of citrus.

Citrus Ice Desert

Ingredients:
2 c water
1 c light corn syrup
1/2 c sugar
2/3 c lemon juice or lime juice or orange juice

Directions:
In heavy, saucepan stir together water, corn syrup and sugar. Heat to boiling over medium high heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, 5 minutes. Remove from heat; cool for 30 minutes. Stir in choice of fruit juice. Pour into 9 inch square baking pan. Cover surface with plastic wrap. Freeze 3 to 4 hours, or until frozen but still soft in center. Spoon into blender container; cover. Blend on high until mixture becomes creamy. Turn back into 9 inch square pan. Cover with plastic wrap. Freeze mixture about 3 hours or until firm.

I like to make a pan of each of the flavors and then serve them like a citrus ice Napoleon. Garnish each dish with a sliced fresh strawberry and a sprig of mint.

Cherokee

I don't know about you but I'm ready to be invited to Cherokee's house for dinner. Thank Cherokee for sharing these recipes. Enjoy the updates and feel free to share recipes with us any time.

Five Days and Counting

Vacation is on the horizon. A few days in the middle for work, but hey how bad can a few days stuck in between a couple of weeks be? Easy-peasy. I've almost made it through this one, hence four more to go! Always good to have the goal to look forward to and I'm most definitely looking forward to this one.

May you all have a grand evening and I will ramble at ya later! Enjoy your updates.

Butt Kicking Fun

I went to see Grindhouse yesterday and it was a hoot. Don't go see this if you're not at all interested in the horror/action genres. Especially if you don't have a fondness for schlocky B movies from the seventies. And even more especially if you can't handle over-the-top-gore and violence.

And why haven't I seen word one in the Xena fandom groups about Zoe Bell being in the Quentin Tarantino half of Grindhouse: Death Proof? Zoe did Xena proud in this movie.

I've talked enough. Enjoy the update and I'll get back to Sunday afternoon ironing. Fun!

Rainy Spring

It's raining again and we've been warned that it might get cold enough this weekend for snow flurries. Brrrrr. I've actually had to turn my heat back on in April. April! Oh well. It's kept the hayfever to a minimum.

I was going to talk a bit about how I never procrastinate and how I always set goals and meet them. My house is spotless and super-organized and my children are angels. But I figured everyone's bullshit meter would go off and I'd get a ton of "bwahahaha" emails.

I will say that even though E calls herself a procrastinator, it's only to a degree. She's one of the most goal-oriented people I've met. Sometimes her humanity kicks in and she drags her butt a bit. She's extremely competent and very good at her job so don't let her ramble fool you.

Have I made up in any way for this teeny update? Eh...I tried. Now I'm off to spitshine everyone's shoes and give the dog a pedicure.

Procrastination

Why are some of us so good at this? I seem to be on that list. If I can put it off to the last minute, why not? My boss has been out of town for three weeks. I had three items that needed to be done and in her email upon return. She returns Monday and I have yet to start them. Hence tomorrow I will stress myself out under the deadline as usual.

I'm not sure I was this good at procrastination in school years ago. Somehow as I have gotten older and lazier I've honed this skill into a well-oiled machine. So I'm not really looking forward to Friday because of my own lack of initative. Live and learn or in this case not.

Now enjoy your updates, the weekend is on the horizon.

Spring Cleaning

Yep, I'm in the midst of it. Currently I'm tackling my kitchen cabinets. I got rid of a lot of bowls and pots that I no longer use. It gave me space to store the leftover hermit crab stuff. Will we ever get another hermit crab? Probably not. I figure next year's cabinet cleaning will get rid of those items.

The Ebay selling is also helping me clear some stuff out. Unfortunately I'm not as quick as I'd like when it comes to putting things up for sale. I've got three large piles of comic book trade paperbacks that I'm slowly whittling down. Ebay sales are taking a break for the next few weeks because soon I'll be heading to Seattle to visit E on her birthday. I don't feel good about leaving items to ship in the hands of Mike. He'll have his hands full with both kids.

Today you've got a pleasantly short update. Enjoy!

Ramble from Lara Zielinsky

Yep, Lara has sent us more of her words and extremely good news to share with all.
An Open Letter to the Online Community,

You are the "Turning Point" in My Life.

There have been so many amazing moments in my life since I joined the online communities (first through the Xena fandom) in 1997. I posted and met innumerable acquaintances and made a few close friends as we shared our love of all things Xena.

I attended only the second convention in my life in 2000 (the only one for leisure), traveling alone to Pasadena -- across the country for me -- to meet face to face with the real people behind so many online names.

I had begun to share my writing, a part of myself I had thought lost forever, for too many reasons to count here. It was the support from so many of you which made me capable of conquering those insecurities. So I wrote for myself, but also as a way to thank you for all your continuing support.

Life changes, and my focus, like others, began to widen. I wrote Voyager stories, dabbled in others, and then I became struck by an idea so audacious, so vivid, so compelling, I had to see what happened with it.

Even as I kept writing stories for online fandoms, I had now found "Original Fiction."

I had always enjoyed the creative process, but there was now a new avenue open to me: publication. When I made the decision to try and publish one of my stories, I knew from my journalism background that editing for print is an entirely different animal to wrestle. So I went "back to school" for the spit and polish, sought professional guidance and earnest help. I envisioned, and revisioned, and now I sit before you to announce that work is now complete.

P.D. Publishing's Linda and Barb Coles-Daniel, and professional editors, Medora MacDougall and Day Peterson, and myself are proud to announce "Turning Point", a lesbian drama romance, is now available for purchase through your favorite online or GLBT retailer. Please see the link for more information.

Thank you for your support through the years. Truthfully I would not be writing today if it weren't for each and every one of you who have dropped me even the shortest note over the years. I hope to continue bringing more engaging characters and stories to you for many years to come.

Lara Z

Let Lara know what you think. You can also go check out her website which has an excerpt available from her new book, plus lots of other words she has shared along the way.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming. Enjoy!

Always Use Vinegar

While other parts of the country were going through winter-like conditions my city yesterday was breaking records with similarities to summer. The yard work I had hoped to accomplish was postponed after my daughter and I took what we had hoped was to be a pleasant stroll to the library. Way too warm for us rain rats. Hence I ended up coming back and taking a nap in my cool house.

The evening brought back a few good memories from childhood. My upbringing was not all that rosy but a few good things stand out...pumpkin carving and dying Easter eggs. Last night eggs were dyed. I love the instructions on the box...for pastels use just water with the tablets, for stronger colors use lime or lemon juice and for deep rich colors use vinegar. Get that bottle of vinegar out! We had fun, now they include the stickers and the wax pencil. Of course I love the pencil and my daughter is all over the stickers. Fun was had.

So enough of my ramblings and back to the regularly scheduled updates! Enjoy your weekend.

Cold!

Spring is here in Oklahoma but I think all the critters who are supposed to be multiplying right now are holed up in their warm burrows. Currently we're getting snow flurries and it's a nippy 40F (5C). Mind you this isn't taking into account the cold North wind that's blowing. I'm back to wearing my hoodies and warm socks. Still struggling with whether or not to turn the heat back on. It seems wrong to have my heat on in April.

Last Easter the kids hunted for eggs that contained melted chocolate treats. I have many pictures of them red faced and sweating. This Easter we'll be bundled up and probably find those eggs in record time so we can get out of the cold.

Enjoy your updates.

Hype Night!

This one applies to all you lucky ducks that live in or near my city of Seattle. We have the special privilege of meeting the one and only Joan Opyr. She'll be here Saturday April 7 (3pm) at the Seattle Mystery Bookshop on Cherry Street in Pioneer Square.

I am feeling lucky to be able to attend this one. Unfortunately my copy of her book (Idaho Code) is on loan to someone else, but I have just the item for her to sign instead. Hoping a few others can come out and support this wonderful writer. Please note on their web site it doesn't show her there, however I emailed her and she most definitely informed me she will be there.

While I was hunting for Joan's name on the that web site I also found coming soon (Thursday May 10th) another of my very favorite authors will be there to sign her new book as well. I'm totally going to play hooky from work and will be there with cash in hand for my copy of Always, the new Aud book by Nicola Griffith. One can hope she does a reading from it as well. She is splendid in person and I highly recommend you invest some time and, if possible, money into her words. You'll be glad you did.

Now on to your updates and have a great night!
