Hype Night

This one was passed to me (thanks, Jo!). A nifty idea and only as good as those who join and participate. Go to it!
A new award has been announced that will give readers of lesbian fiction a chance to indicate what their favorite books of the previous year were. This award will be based totally on readers' opinions and there are no requirements to be a voter except that you join the award site and be a reader of lesbian fiction. Anyone may join the site and anyone may nominate books and vote once they have joined.

Awards will be made in several categories: Romance, Speculative/SciFi/Fantasy, Adventure, Mystery, Anthology/Erotica/Short Story, Overall Fiction and Best Writer. The nominations must be for books that were published in the 2006 calendar year (January 1 – December 31). The awards site is set up so that anyone may nominate books in any category, but only one vote may be cast in each category.

Membership in the group is now open. For this first year nominations will start on March 1, 2006, with a nominating period of approximately two months. Members may nominate as many books as they choose. The top twenty-five books that are nominated in each category will then be posted and members may begin voting on May 1. The voting period will end on May 31 and the top five vote getters in each category will then be announced as the winners on June 15. Winners will be announced on a number of web sites and writers groups. Winners will receive a certificate indicating which category the award is in and bragging rights for the next year. In years to come, the nominating period will include only the month of March, with voting being in the month of April and winners will be announced on May 10.

Those who are interested in participating should go to the following web address and ask to join the group: groups.yahoo.com/group/LesbianFictionReadersChoiceAwards/. If you have problems joining the group, contact the moderator at missoulawriter@yahoo.com. Feel free to post this announcement on other groups and web sites if you choose to.

There you have it. A group that eventually can give you all trends towards what others are reading and enjoying.

Now off to your updates, enjoy 'em.
