Words from Joan

Yeah, ramble away Joan!

You may have never heard that acronym. It's for "Patriotic Europeans against the Islamisation of Europe" (is islamisation even a word?), and it's a German acronym.

This organisation made quite some noise here during the last few months. People here tend to be afraid of Islam, confusing it with "islamistic", like, say, Bin Laden or the so-called ISIS. Many people attended demonstrations of pegida. But -- what did they find? A bunch of nazis who were too coward to meet the necessity of living side by side with Muslims, which make up a relatively small part of our population. Many of those who live here are entrepreneurs or just collegues working next to you. So WTF? Many people realised that and simply turned their backs on pegida.

I am very glad to hear on the news that pegida has all but disbanded. Maybe, just maybe, Germany has come off age. At least, I have one less reason to be ashamed of the country I live in.

Wow, I think everywhere has some whacko's. Glad the group is disbanding. We have some groups that consider themselves "Patriotic" and I would consider them racist.

Here's hoping for a little more intelligence and a little less racism. And, Joan, good to see you and please come by anytime.
