Another day flies by....

This evening brings great happiness for my daughter since for us it's Halloween and the night of Trick or Treating. A candy fest lies ahead.

Hoping you all have a good one and a splendid Wednesday or Thursday depending on your locale.

Enjoy your updates.

It's That Time of Year

Sickness has struck the Hodge Lodge. Last Sunday Cal didn't go to church school because he was complaining of a sore throat and he had a low grade fever. Monday both he and Duncan stayed home from school with it. Duncan recovered and doesn't show any signs of his cold. Cal is still battling the damn thing in his tonsils and, predictably, it's now hit his ears. So off to the doc we went this afternoon for a looksee and a prescription for antibiotic.

Just to make things better I succumbed on Friday night while Duncan and I were watching Back to the Future 1 & 2. No ear ache or sore throat for me but my head is definitely full and I'm feeling blah. Last night being up with Cal didn't help me feel any better. As a result I've been next to useless on helping E with the updates. Reckon she feels well and truly back to the grind of checking links?

Enjoy the updates and be sure to keep checking the auction for Ze. More stuff has been added since we posted their announcement yesterday. Ze has an incredibly big heart but loves to hide that fact. It would be nice to show her how well she's thought of in the fanfiction community.

Zero

Here's a very special announcement with your updates tonight.
The Official Anti-Wanker Auction for Zero, Jac Hills, aka Insane Englishwoman

Because we're all about the love, and since we can't all hop on a jet plane to have sex with a Certain Someone to put a smile on her face after some wanker totaled out her beloved Triumph (as well as trashing her shoulder and other rather necessary parts of her anatomy), we're doing what we can do: Trading off some really cool stuff for some bits of colored paper (aka "money") to lend a helping hand to a woman who'd be first in this line to help out another.

Bid high, bid frequently, bid against your friends and neighbors… Heck, even bid against yourself, 'cause you know you want some of this hot stuff!

Let's prove that if some wanker knocks down one of our own, legions of us will put her back on her feet!

In this family, we stand up for our own. Take that, wanker!

Auctions will start 10/29/2006 and end 11/05/2006 at 7:00pm US CST.
Paypal cash donations will end 11/12/2006 at 7:00pm US CST.

Please include Zero's name in the subject line of all emails.

The auction link including a PayPal donation button is now active.
www.djordanredhawk.net/auction

Check back often since we hope new auction items will continue to be added.

If you have any questions, please contact Vicki Allen at vdallen@whoever.com and she will work with the parties in question to get the answers.

Rather than posting her address, if anyone wishes to send Zero a Get Well Card, please email Vicki for her address and she will forward them on to her.

Sometimes I shake my head in disgust over human actions. One such action would be a hit and run that happened this weekend. The victim in this particular accident was a friend and a good one at that. Honor, Integrity and Respect are just a few terms that I link with her. She is someone who consistently lends a hand when necessary. She has gone out of her way on many occasions to help others in need. The time is now to return that favor.

Why do so many children have birthdays around Halloween? Too many small children's birthday parties today, hence I am as tired as my daughter.

Sin City

Now I know why Las Vegas is called that. Really it's an unfair name for a very unique city. Besides the fact that one of my friends lives there I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this city of extremes.

Vegas may be over-the-top in certain areas, but you must see it for how damn amazing it truly is. The "strip" is nothing short of incredible. Yes, billions of dollars and wacky people with more money than sense fuel this area but see it for more than that. Being someone who enjoys architecture this place is splendid. Look past the glitz and you can find truly amazing things.

Keep in mind the strip is only one piece of a very large picture. Freemont is certainly worth your time and energy if you ever visit. This is primarily where we hung out. The party atmosphere and the nifty lightshows were only part of it all. The casinos in this section are older and have a bit more charm in comparison to thier glitzy grandkids down the street.

Also outside the city lies beauty in its rawest form. Take the time to get away from the city and see what the state has to offer. Short distances from the core one can find extraordinary beauty surrounding the city of sin.

I got to connect with a buddy and see some grand things that truly stand apart from one another. If you're interested in pictures check here. Please note, I tried very hard to capture the intensity of the strip at night and failed misrably so accept my apologies in advance.

Enough of my rambles. On to your update, enjoy.

Home

So I return. I'm wading through many pictures while holding on to a serious well-deserved hangover. I hope to give you all a worthy ramble tomorrow and a condensed photo album of my adventures in Las Vegas. Time to give Tamara a break.

So until then, have a flawless evening and enjoy your updates.

Quickie

Quick words today because Blogger has a scheduled outage coming up in six minutes. Eep. Hope everyone's week is going well. Mine is quiet without my online buddy. Okay. Not really quiet. I still have the Lord of Chaos and his equally loud older brother with me.

The Saga of Cal's Tooth

When Cal was two he chipped his front tooth on a park bench. The chip was bad enough that it required a cap to save the tooth. Insurance covered the cost and he came out of the experience none the worse for wear. In June of this year the cap fell off. I suspected it wasn't long for this world since his tooth had grown quite a bit. We lucked out on recapping the tooth because while the receptionist at the dentist's said our insurance wouldn't cover more than one cap, it ended up being covered. Let me tell you, getting that refund check from the dentist was quite keen.

So...I figured we'd be good for at least another few years with the new cap. That would be great because he should lose his front teeth by then anyway. Sadly this wasn't the case. He recently broke the cap again while eating popcorn at mom's house. I don't know about you but I usually chew popcorn with my back teeth. Anyway I figured we couldn't be so lucky again. I was prepared to pay that $300 for another cap. Luckily my dentist was more than willing to redo the cap for no charge since the darn thing hadn't even been in place for six months.

Now...everyone please send good vibes Cal's way to encourage him not to chip this tooth again. I've got about another year before he starts losing those front teeth to permanent teeth. It just has to hold out until then. I'm seriously considering getting that puppy bronzed when it does fall out with a nice inscription reading something along the lines of Here lies the $1000 tooth. We won't miss him. In the meantime, would it be considered child abuse if I forbid Cal to eat anything but mashed potatoes and cream of wheat until that damn baby tooth falls out?

I was going to write a bit about Cal's tooth but after inputting all of these P&P updates my fingers are tired. No words from me because y'all have a bunch to read tonight. Get to it.

She's off!

It's my turn to update for the next few days. E is officially at the Las Vegas airport. She had a heckuva fun time on a flight where they ran out of alcohol. I asked her to note whether the return flight is populated with more subdued passengers.

So she's all ready to gamble a little, people watch a lot and hopefully shove her luggage full of some nifty rocks and Nevada dirt. Lucky for her Alaska Airlines doesn't weigh the luggage.

Nice update for y'all tonight. Enjoy 'em and I'll see you tomorrow.

Last Minute

It's always a push on that last day before vacation. My daughter has a birthday party from 5-7 pm tonight. Today was supposed to be last minute packing, in this case all of my packing since I put it off. Then I was going fill up my MP3 player for the plane and gather up other last minute items.

However, things are just not supposed to be smooth. This afternoon the cat started throwing up all over the place with worms. Great...the unexpected visit to the vet gets thrown into the mix with the added feature of four loads of laundry since the best place to get sick is on two freshly made beds. Splendid.

Remember Tamara is all by herself until next Thursday so make sure to send her emails, rambles, recipes and comments. Her daily dose of my hassling will be little to non-existant, hence she may be lonely. Let's not let that happen.

Bye, y'all. Wish me luck in Las Vegas. Ramble at ya on Thursday.

Friday Flies By

The last day of work for me for a week, hence a crazy day all around. Plus I left early to spend some extra time with my punk-o-lunk and pack before I fly off to Las Vegas for a few days. I'm sure my desk will be buried upon my return.

Last night I spent some time surfing the web hunting for new sites and stories. I got lucky and found a few that are now on our list. Tonight I'm posting a couple of stories that may not be new to some but are stories that were posted earlier in the summer and may not have been mentioned anywhere but these author sites, hence new for many of us.

Remember these writers and authors share freely with us and they deserve your feedback. If you took the time to read their words, return the favor and send them your thoughts about them.

Okay on to your update. Enjoy them!

Scattered

Yes, you all have to deal with my random words once again today. In fact you'll have to deal with me for a few days in a row. I'm on vacation from Sunday - Thursday next week to see another online buddy. Sadly no internet access...withdrawals will be coming my way. With that in mind I felt Tamara deserved the break this week.

So on with your updates. Enjoy them.

Forward

Time moves that way. Tomorrow brings about another day. One that will be filled with opportunities. Each holding choices and directions for our path. Change is constant and it can be hard. That reality though is fact.

One needs to see that it can also be the path to something better. Seek out tomorrow with hope and look for something other. One never knows how big or small the moment and memory can be. But it can last a lifetime.

Take tomorrow for what it is...a new day. Slap no expectations other than an opportunity waiting in the darkness. Make it what you will. Peace.

Now off to your updates, enjoy 'em.

Random Bits

We have once again updated the Grunt's List to reflect more of the sites that we actually get stories from. Many were moved lower to our less frequently checked areas due to their lack of story updates but we'll continue to check them and all the other lower links from time to time.

Also, please take note we've found a fairly nifty site if you are in need of a beta reader/editor. This one is located at Passion & Perfection with some nifty details of the folks skill levels and what they are willing to read and able to help a writer with.

Posting online may be free and wonderful but remember, make the experience more enjoyable for all...search out a beta reader if not 2 or even 3. A writer may be amazed by how much those extra eyes can improve a story and help one get more skills for the future.

We'll continue to upgrade, change and move our list around. So if you know of a site that we should look at email us. We're always looking for more story sites and other useful links.

Thanks again and enjoy your updates.

Rainy Day Snooze

This was my day for slugdom. I just woke up from a nice nap on the couch after a day of rain. Never fear...my back is fine. I was somewhat productive. Did a little laundry, tidied the living room and put on a pot of beans for dinner. Rainy days are perfect for beans and cornbread. Then...a nice nap. I was only able to accomplish this because son #2 was at grandma's. Our house was blissfully quiet all afternoon, hence the lazy nap time.

You've got a little longer update tonight. Curl up in bed or on a couch or in your favorite comfy chair and read.

Fun on the Farm

Went to a large farm today with my daughter. They had corn mazes, hay mazes, an impressive hay jumping area, tractor rides, 12 acre pumpkin field, petting zoo, many farm animals, cider barn, and bakery areas where they show you each step of the process. We had some really good corn on the cob and other overpriced items for lunch. Plus we are now the owner of four splendid pumpkins that are spending the night in the car since my back has had more than enough fun for one day. Here are pictures for those of you who are interested.

So tomorrow is a day of rest after a trip to the grocery store, hopefully allowing my back more couch time.

Done rambling, enjoy your updates.

Pumpkin Patch Fun

I spent the day frolicking with kids at a pumpkin patch in Newcastle, OK. We had perfect weather for it--not too windy or cold or hot. I go every year with the special education classes at my son's elementary school. The kids always have a blast and they get to pick their own pumpkin.

Cal had fun jumping off huge bales of hay, looking at a few farm animals and racing around a tricycle track. We skipped the corn maze this year. I could have reminded him about it but, truth to tell, I was hoping he'd forget. He almost drove me nuts by being too picky about his pumpkin. I kept pointing out perfectly nice specimens only to have them dismissed by Cal.

We survived our day and the walk home from school with me laden down by lunch bag, purse, camera, book and water jug. Yes, I took a book. I read during the bus ride. Our pumpkins we left at the school. I knew Cal wasn't up for carrying anything let alone a few pounds worth of pumpkin. Never fear, the pumpkins were rescued after school when we picked up Duncan. I was smart though and drove the car. I'm sure the pumpkins appreciated the comfort. I know I did.

Slugs Can Bite

I know that now. I've spent the last two days doping myself up and sleeping as much as possible. My back froze due to my slug behavior on Sunday. The act of doing nothing but lying around moping isn't a good one for me. Last night was the first sign of letting up without the help of Valium.

Next time those chores that need to get done will. The pain from the last two days should stay with me for a while. So if something good came out of this it may be the fact that I will mope actively in the future.

And now off to the updates!

Lovely Fall

Cool weather has finally found Oklahoma. The days are mild but the nights are nice and cool. It's wonderful to be able to sleep with the covers pulled up to my ears. If this weather holds we'll have a cold and Fall-like Halloween this year. Keen.

Announcing the FemSlash Advent Calendar :: Dead of Winter 2006

I haven't posted any hype in a while. Thought I'd remedy that....
Well, here we are again with the FemSlash Advent Calendar :: Dead of Winter 2006, located at fsac.shatterstorm.net/yule2006/.

Yay! Any reason for more femslashy goodness is good in our book!

And now for the obligatory rules list...

First the administrative rules:

1. FSAC DW06 (huh? What's that stupid acronym mean? Oh! Duh... Femslash Advent Calendar Dead of Winter 2006) has exclusive rights to all stories until January 7, 2007.

2. Once your entry has been posted on the FSAC DW06 site, you may feel free to link to the FSAC DW06 site or the ShatterStorm Productions site, but please do not link solely to the individual entry. This is to ensure that people have the opportunity to check out the entirety of the FSAC DW06.

3. Entries cannot be permanently posted or archived anywhere else (lists, sites, LJ, etc) until after January 6, 2006. (See Rule #2 above.)

4. Oh! And please make sure that these are new fics/pics/vids, unpublished anywhere else. We're only gonna hold 'em hostage for a little while, and then you can have them back.

5. Dates will be assigned to authors unless they specify a date they want. The calendar will be updated as regularly as humanly possible. We will allow multiple stories per day, once there is a story assigned to each date.

6. Sign-ups begin on 10/3/06 and end on 11/15/06.

7. All entrants must have their submissions in to aj & Jenn no later than midnight PDT on their due date, as shown below. If you cannot get your submission in on time, and we don't hear from you, we will put in a ringer.

* 11 December 2005: Stories dated 12/17 - 1/1 are due no later than midnight PDT.

And now for the more creative rules:

2. No bestiality (the dog can sleep at the foot of the bed, but that's IT).

3. No underage over PG (this is just playing with fire).

4. No real people. Period.

5. And, for the love of little green apples, make sure they're NOT related if you're gonna get smutty! Incest is squicky.

6. There is no rule number six.

7. Any rating is acceptable. Please make sure to note and warn of any potential "squicks."

8. Fanfiction, fan art, and music videos are acceptable.

9. The individual requirements:

Routine

I'm getting back into my regular routine slowly but surely. I've found a few items that have been misplaced or lost (always happens) but I can't really get too upset about that because mom does me a huge favor taking care of the kids while I'm gone. I try my darndest to be patient with the kids the first few days after I'm back. Unfortunately a couple of weeks of not having to hear the inevitable bickering and whining makes my tolerance for it much lower. So far I think I've done a fine job of not blowing my top. By Monday I should have reached a nice state of equilibrium. Keep your fingers crossed that the kids survive until then.

Tamara

p.s. Please send your prayers and positive thoughts to our frequent guest rambler, Linda. Her brother suffered a heart attack this past weekend and everyone in Linda's family is pulling for him to come back strong. Good vibes sent their way would be much appreciated.

Home Once Again

I was supposed to arrive in OKC last night around 11:30 but when I arrived at the Denver airport (pumped for my two hour layover) I checked the departures board for my flight number and there in big red letters was "flight cancelled." Thunderstorms in Chicago had grounded my plane and I was rescheduled to leave the next morning. Lovely.

I ended up staying overnight in a hotel and left Denver around 8:30am mountain time today. I arrived in OKC a little before 11. It was certainly an awful lot of bother for such a short flight (hour and five minutes). At least I didn't sleep in the airport. I'd probably be a lot crankier today. Right now I'm just moderately tired.

Now I must get back into the habit of cooking dinners and doing chores. Vacations are keen.

Enjoy the updates!

Tamara

p.s. Extra Flamey is back but lost all of their stories database. Check out www.extraflamey.com for a request from the site owner. Maybe someone out there in internet land can lend a helping hand. I'd sure hate to see Extra Flamey go away for want of a good script.

Back to the Routine

As I type Tamara is on a plane heading home. Our days of fun are over. Fall is upon us and back to the grind we go.

Now on a update note if anyone has a contact email for Extra Flamey please use it or let us know and we will contact them to see what's up with their site.

Got any words or thoughts you want to share, let us know. If you have found some cool femme slash fiction site we've missed holler and we will check it out.

Now enjoy your updates.
