Today is my dad's birthday. He's 68. Are we doing anything special for him? Nope. My dad is one of those people who keeps everyone at a distance so if you acknowledge his birthday he gets irritated. I used to get him a card every year but stopped when I found out he never opened them. I did get one for him from the kids. He'll open that one just because Cal will open it for him. And insist he read it. I was never that forward with my dad. Learned a long time ago not to be. It's easier to just remember he has a birthday and then let it pass.
