Good Lupercalia, Everybody??

So... did everybody have a good Pagan Fertility Rite Day??

Anybody get walloped with a goatskin??

No??

I am disappointed...

The attempt to Christianise that fertility festival doesn't seem to have worked very well. It's turned into a dedication to Mammon.

An excuse for greetings card makers to sell ridiculously sickly sentimental cards at inflated prices, chocolatiers to charge exorbitant amounts for small quantities indifferent chocolates in fancy boxes, and rose growers to hype flowers for ten times their usual price - and sell them to people who have no idea that (except in Texas) a yellow rose means jealousy, a white one means purity, and even a red one doesn't necessarily mean what you're hoping it does - it depends on the exact shade of red - crimson, scarlet, and burgundy all mean different things... Not to mention the restaurateurs who make a killing selling perfectly ordinary meals for twice the normal price simply because they've been given a "romantic" name and there are fancy candles on the table.

I'm with Tamara - bah humbug

No, I didn't get any cards. Why are you asking??
