Perhaps they're referring to the confusion between lesbian and bisexual? I've noticed, for example, that some people insist that Xena is a lesbian when she is demonstrably bisexual.
When I came out (back in 1979) there were "political lesbians" who were really hetero but chose to sleep with women rather than "the enemy." Were they "real lesbians"? Probably not, but were instead, temporary, I think.
Real Lesbians make me think we should have stickers printed, like those Real California Cheese labels on products. I guess if we're going to be labeled, it should be Real.
