Spring Lives

Today reminded me why this is absolutely my favorite season. Sun breaks, drops of rain and 62, what more could I want?

We did a bunch of gardening, got the tomatoes in as Tamara did some weed whacking on the steep hill and pulled a ton of dandelions from the strawberry area.

Tamara and the kids even got out and washed her big blue van and all three kiddos took the opportunity to jump happily about on the trampoline.

Overall it was a great day. The clouds are rolling in for tomorrow but no complaints as we got a perfect Saturday.

Technical Difficulties

Blogger was down most of yesterday so we didn't get the update posted to the site until this afternoon. We did mail it out to the Yahoo group (there's a handy dandy sign-up spot a wee bit down to the right) last night, however.

Our weekend looks to be full of rain. I'm hoping we get a little sun tomorrow so we can plant some flowers on the hillside behind the house. Even if it is raining I reckon I'll get up there but it'll be a lot messier of a job.

Vacation is in my radar. One more day of work and I have another week off. I could really get used to this vacation thing. I hope the sun continues to share with us for the next few days as some yard work is necessary.

It was not my fault.

Honestly it wasn't. I was nowhere near it at the time. I was right on the other side of the site. And besides, I don't have a current chainsaw certificate so I couldn't have done it anyway.

I may be a trifle accident-prone but it's personal, not locational. I only cause havoc to myself. I am not a Jonah. I do not emit sonic waves that cause other people to have accidents. It isn't fair to blame me simply because I was somewhere on site.

Ok. I'll admit that the slight miscalculation involving the precise length of the scaffolding pole, which caused it to impact with the greenhouse window, thereby breaking a pane of glass, was completely my fault. But I totally reject the hypothesis that the sound of breaking glass so shocked the tree surgeon that he cut down the wrong tree. He should have checked the tags. He's a tree surgeon, damnit, he should know all about tree preservation orders. He should also be able to tell the difference between three 20 year old alders (as specified by the work-sheet) that need removing so that we can finish the entrance road, and one seventy year old, protected, horse chestnut that's 25 metres away from the entrance!!

He'll have to pay the fine himself, I'm not contributing to it!! He can try and blame me all he likes, but it won't wash. So there.

Oh blimey. I've just looked at today's date and realised that this Friday is a Friday 13th. Oh boy. If chaos, destruction and mayhem follow in my wake on ordinary days, can you imagine what might happen on Friday 13th.

I think I'll call in sick and spend the day in bed. Wrapped in bubble-wrap. Holding a fire-extinguisher. And a first aid kit. And my EpiPen (in case of stray bees).

Femslash con panels

Been watching the Eurovision Song Contest semi-final and wondering the whole time whatever happened to using singers who could actually sing.

Best singer - only really decent voice - San Marino - and nope, she didn't get through. Every year I swear I'll give up on this "contest" - I keep coming back though...I think I'm just addicted to awful European tv.

Ah well, gotta do something to unwind. There were so many bank holidays in April that I lost a whole week's worth of time & money, so I've been working extra to make up (lighter evenings are a blessing). It means I get home late and it takes me a little longer to relax.

Cal and I stayed home today. Mike brought him to me Sunday with a nice cold and a fever. He slept through the night and didn't get up until around 10. this morning. So far he's fever free and just feeling puny because of the cold. If he stays that way we'll both head to school tomorrow.

Lazy Day

A mostly kid free day, yeah it is Mother's Day in the US, but it worked out that way and in all reality it felt nice being lazy slugs today. Some chores but overall a stress free day. Unfortunately we got one of the boys tonight and they came over sick. Leaving Tamara preparing for a day off work tomorrow.

For me I've got one week of ease (hopefully) as next week I am on yet another vacation and headed to Las Vegas to meet up with friend for few days of fun leaving Tamara with house, cats and update.

Bits & Bobs & Dinner

It's been a rather eventful week for some. We got that damn' wedding out of the way at last. Boy were the papers full of it. Forty pages of a fifty-page tabloid. How the hell cam anybody find that much to say about it?? Trying to find any real news, in the papers or on the news channels, was next-to-impossible.

And news there was a-plenty. Devastating weather across the southern USA, postponed shuttle launches, and the announcement of the death of Osama Bin Laden.

Further to the tornadoes in the USA - there's a livejournal fanfic fund-raiser community set up Help the South.

My cousin went out for dinner this evening and consequently I was left to my own devices as far as a meal for myself was concerned. I contemplated cooking something - unsupervised!! I looked at all the food in the fridge. I looked at all the food, ingredients, herbs and spices, in the cupboards. I eyed the cooker with no little trepidation. I stood in the kitchen doorway and pondered a while. I checked on the location of all our fire-extinguishers.

Then I walked down the hill to the chippy and bought myself a chip supper!! It seemed safer.

Of course it wasn't a proper chip supper - that would have required fish, and I don't eat fish. But it was a large portion of chips, and a portion of mushy peas (I think they're unique to the UK). Nicely sprinkled with salt and malt vinegar. And when I got them home I added HP Sauce, too.

Unbelievably unhealthy. But very tasty. *g*
