Unanimous

All three of us at Uber Etc recommend (and I think highly) that if you have the funds, get to a movie theater showing Star Trek. Unlike both Tamara and Ze I was never a huge fan of the original series, however without hesitation I can say this movie was fun and lots of it! I totally look forward to more of them. I also believe these movies were meant for the big screen, so go enjoy if able.

Now on a different note S. Derkins emailed me and wanted us to post that she is having serious computer issues, hence is unable to post at her current site but is posting here http://www.sderkins.123bemyhost.com until she gets it all worked out.

Great film!!

Star Trek was bloody fantastic. Yes, I was a little upset by some of the changes in back-story, origins, etc. (And I'm pretty sure they couldn't have done it if Majel Barrett had still been alive.) But old Spock explained it all quite nicely so I could accept it and get on with enjoying a cracking good sci-fi adventure.

Karl Urban was (as expected) excellent as a younger McCoy. Utterly believable. Zachary Quinto was amazing as the young Spock. And Chris Pine did a damn' fine job with Kirk. All of them believable as the young versions of those well-known characters. (Within the aforementioned reservations regarding back-story). Simon Pegg was good - he wasn't really Scotty - but he was good anyway. And was Chekov really that young?? The only character, in fact, who didn't ring true as the younger version of a much-loved original was Uhuru. Nice actress, very cute, strips down verrrry nicely - but she just wasn't Uhuru.

And the Enterprise. Oh yeah - brilliant. Perfect. It was the NCC - 1701. No question. The whole thing was so damn' good it almost made up for the embarrassment of a few of the earlier movies (I'm looking at you Final Frontier and Nemesis!!)

Trekkie or not Trekkie - if you like sci-fi action adventure - go see this flick - you will not be disappointed.

Beyond Tired

So tired I can't even think what my name is. The last four work days have been ten-hour days with only Sunday off over the weekend - and I dug over our garden on Sunday. I'm too tired to stand up right now. In fact if I hadn't been doing this tonight I'd have been in bed an hour ago - and I never go to bed before midnight!! I'm only working 7 hours tomorrow . In the evening I'm supposed to be going to the pictures (movies) to see the new Trek film. I'm a bit apprehensive because from reviews I've read they seem to have ret-conned a lot. I'll give it a go though. That's if I don't fall asleep half-way through. I'll let you know tomorrow night what I think of it. If I'm lucky I may even be awake enough to be more entertaining than I am tonight.

Sunny(dale) Saturday

Chore day for us. I did manage to make a quick trip to a local comic book/toy show. I limited myself on expenditures but I saw many keen 100 page DC issues. Maybe next time....

It's been awhile but we've got an all Buffy day for y'all. Keep your fingers crossed for more variety tomorrow.

Sunshine

The sun finally broke out. We've had some splendid days of gray and rain, but today the light busted through. Kids are off playing on the trampoline with Mike hopefully taking them out for dinner while Tamara and I get the opportunity to go to the comic book store with a calm evening ahead.

The weekend forecast calls for more sun and I personally look forward to it. Perhaps some gardening and lawn care is in the future. This weekend in the USA is also Mother's Day and that means Sunday we don't cook. Who knows what we'll eat, but I at least know we won't be cooking it.

On that note I'll wish moms everywhere Happy Mother's Day and now back to the update. Enjoy.

Nothing to say but saying it anyway

Don't really have much to say tonight. I'm knackered. It's been a long, hard day. I s'pose I could talk about the weather since it keeps being weird. (Hot, cold, wet, dry - can't make its mind up). Or maybe I could talk about the new 'flu bug and the daft panic that's happening. It's 'flu - yes 'flu is a serious disease (in normal circumstances most people who say they have 'flu generally have a heavy cold). 'Flu can kill. This new strain is no different. A lot of people will get sick. Some will get very sick. (I'm classified as "at risk"). Tragically some will die. But panic-killing pigs and closing borders is over-reaction.

Or maybe I could talk about the question of why I've only just heard Marilyn Chambers died last month. Wasn't she important enough?? The newspapers managed to report that Exotic Dancer was dead (he's a horse) but not her?? Or did I just miss it??

Or the idiocy of our government. They want us to carry ID cards. Voluntarily. In order to get an ID card you need to produce your passport (cost £100) and then you have to buy your ID card (another £30) are they nuts?? Five billion quid being spent (in a recession) on ID cards we don't have to carry but have to spend £130 to get. And why do we need an ID card if we already have a passport anyway?? Nuts.

Or I could talk about something lighter and more amusing like the people with of a cat who live in Loughborough who are advertising to try and find the owners of the socks it's stolen. Apparently this cat has a real thing for socks & every time it goes out it steals one. They currently have 57 odd socks they can't identify.

Or the really sweet story of these two horses.

I hate football (I'm sure I've said it before)

(And I'll likely say it again.) But I do hate it right now. Breaks your bloody heart it does. I can't believe the lads let them walk all over us like that. That means at least another year will go by without us managing to do what even Aston Villa have done. Aston Villa!! (Actually I quite like the Villa - they've got a great team there and young enough that they can only do better). Ah well. That's football for you. Like the man said, it's a funny old game.

The kid's home from the hosp. so the local fire brigade can breathe again. I no longer have to cook for myself. And if by chance I do cook I have supervision and am therefore less likely to burn the house down. Tonight we had five-bean chilli. With rice. And peppers. Everything finished cooking at the same time thereby allowing the meal to be served all together and not in stages. The rice was not burnt. The smoke alarms did not go off. There was even enough left for seconds.

Bliss.

Sleepy in the Sun

I've just been feeling incredibly lazy today. I did manage to hack at some blackberry bramble on the hill behind the house. That's about the only constructive thing I've gotten done today. I seem to be in a sleepy, reading my comics mood. E, however, is full of energy. Spring is here and she's in a planting mode. She directed the kids in seed planting earlier in the day. More flowers and some tomato plants were purchased. I don't think they're going to get those in the ground today. After this is posted I'll try and do a few more constructive things. Maybe gather up the trash and recycling. Then perhaps a few more comics. Enjoy 'em!

Traffic from Hell

Seattle is not great normally, but this weekend's construction, local events and our weekend plans collided. We spent 90% of the day going less than 10 miles from our house. Patience I don't have normally and on the weekends even less. I'm grumpy and a bit frustrated.

My daughter's school had a May Faire festival...getting there wasn't bad only double the normal traffic time from weekday rush, but getting back took us 4 times as long as our route there. But we did hit up Free Comic Book Day and Comics Dungeon was doing a grand business. At least being there was pleasant and yet packed with people. Me now tired and definitely don't want to see the inside of my car. I'll spend some time cleaning to release some frustration. I may as well be useful while I'm grumpy.

Friday!

Well, it's been a week. One that I'm glad is over. Cal, along with E, started the week off by being sick. Mike took home duty the first day, I took off from work to be with Cal on Tuesday. By the end of the day he was bored and ended up spending time on the trampoline so I figured he was good to go for Wednesday.

Sad to say I was starting to get the crud on Tuesday. Actually I think it started as allergies and morphed into a cold. E and I had a horrible night of sleep and dragged ourselves out of bed for work on Wednesday. I snotted and sneezed my way through the day. It's amazing how sleepy Benadryl won't make you when you're making sure a sixteen year old boy doesn't destroy a vacuum cleaner. Thursday was yet another blur of kleenex and antihistamines.

Finally Friday arrives and I'm feeling so much better. So is E. Cal is left with a cough and a sad, hoarse little voice. Quite a change from his usually loud one. I made it through another day protecting the vacuum cleaner and only have a few new bruises to show for my week. Bring on the weekend and Free Comic Book Day on Saturday. Yay!
